Station History

The Bee is an Adult Contemporary playing "Today's Hits and Yesterday's Favorites."    The station started off as rock KCPX in the late 70's and evolved into a top 40 station by the mid-80's.  The station flipped formats in 1993 and became "Variety 98.7" KVRI.  The station never really given a chance because KVRI was purchased in 1995 by Citadel Communications and renamed KBEE "B98.7," although the format didn't change.
Despite a relatively stable format it had a revolving morning show.  It began with "the Wakeup Club," which rotated cast members.  In 1998 "Simon and Brady" teamed up, and lasted thru 2001.  Station manager Rusty Keyes wooed away crosstown competitor's Todd and Erin Collard from KISN 97's longtime "Fisher, Todd, and Erin" morning show.  The morning show was teamed as a trio Seamus, who hosted the show until Todd and Erin's no-compete contract ended.  They kicked off the show in February 2002 in the heart of the Salt Lake City olympics.
The music format shifted to a more alternative rock sound in 2000 making it sound remarkably similar to sister station KENZ "The End."  It reclaimed it's original Adult Contemporary format in 2002 when Todd and Erin joined the station.
