Radio in Salt Lake has hit equilibrium! For the first time since KZN went on the air, I'm pleased to announce: Zion has arrived on the radio dial! With the radio dial so perfect, it may be time for me to move onto new ventures. It's obvious perfection is here because we have nothing to talk about on the message board! I mean, no format changes have taken place in months! The only format change that comes to mind is the sign on of Movin' and the Oasis last fall. Every station in the city must be so perfectly programmed that they fit together like puzzle pieces, naturally resisting change.Look at ZHT. They must be perfect, because they are the only CHR/Pop in the market. KODJ too, because it's the sole goldie oldy. Even My 99-5 has found it's groove as the market's own mish-mash, iPod, call-in-sweeper station. KSL is the only AM and FM news station. Arrow is the only classic hits station. And all the Simmons stations are solid gold! Except for Movin'. . . .and Oasis. Yeah, and Jack, too. Signal issues there. Then again, KSL-FM did kill Star's sales account, and that may cause Bonneville to lose some money, so that's not quite perfect, either. And FM 100's audience is skewing older, so KSFI is in a bit of a flux too. But everything else is perfect! Except for KXRV. The way that station's been off-course lately, I wouldn't want live next to that River, or else my basement would be so flooded. But then again we all know 105.7 is cursed. Well, at least Millcreek is proud to announce that all the stations are up to snuff. Well, except for "the Mix." Somebody left the blender on while we all left on vacation. But don't worry, we'll all be back soon and the ratings will go up. - - - - - -
The real fact is that there is as much to talk about now as there ever was. It really confuses me why the radio dial fan base has seemed so stagnant lately. I too don't get as excited to talk about radio as I once did. Maybe we are all sitting on the edge of radio-dial D-day. A few radio owners may be cooking up plans to stir the pot. . . .then we'll all jump back into action. I want all the radio operators to succeed. I want good, talented people to continue bringing well-produced programming to my car, free of charge. But if we radio nuts have lost interest in the dial, I worry how the average listener must feel.
